Tamil Nadu Capuchins

The province of Amala Annai was formed in 1972 when Indian province was divided into four. With just 36 friars and 7 friaries, the Tamil friars worked hard for the growth of the Order in Tamil Nadu and by 2012 the number of friars increased up to 250 with 26 friaries, 2 mission abroad, 2 fraternal collaborations with Western provinces, and service in Arabian Custody. In April, 2012 the province was bifurcated into Amala Annai Province and Mary, Queen of Peace Province, with around 120 friars and 13 friaries each. The growth of the provinces has steadily progressed well even in the last 6 six years. Both the provinces have separate initial formation of aspirancy in their provinces but from the postulancy up to theological studies, we have inter-provincial collaboration in formation. Amala Annai province has a mission in Burkina Faso with 2 friaries and 7 friars and a Fraternal collaboration with French Province, St.Joseph Province of Detroit, USA and Palermo Province in Italy. At present, there are 4 friars working in Custody of Arabia and one friar in Jerusalem.
